Not all devastation starts suddenly, so I wanted to capture the feeling of a terrible situation sinking in slowly. Using just piano and cello (with some subtle strings in the far background), this piece is spiralling downwards into deep sadness.
There are few worse feelings than wishing with all your heart that something tragic that has taken place just wasn’t true. Deep strings and mournful cello give voice to those feelings of utter despair that hurt your heart.
Dealing with grief is a confusing mix of the weight of loss pressing down at the same time as there being hints of wanting to heal. I used ethereal electronic samples, piano, and cello to trace that fragile journey — sorrow with tender echoes of memory lingering, but a subtle light shimmering just beyond the darkness. It’s grieving, it’s letting go, and it’s quietly, almost imperceptibly, reaching for hope.
